got a language question
how do you describe a person who think ( pretent to or have unfounded confidence in) that he knows everything and acts detestably most time? in English?

kastner- 11-13-2007

additionally, he's about your age, and shows his sophisticate off :(

CousinDave- 11-13-2007

arrogant?

kastner- 11-13-2007

well, similar, but he doesn't exaggerate things, not pride, just keeps giving others so-called counsel. have to admit, he knows something (and more?), but real world is far beyond his experience. anyway, if there's no better words, i'll take arrogant. thanks, dude

CousinDave- 11-13-2007

How about condecending?

kastner- 11-13-2007

hmm, i will stick to "arrogant" thou :P when you say "condescending", you mean he has higher status than you do? but in my case, he's about my age, as my status (not outstanding at least). that's it, hey, like when you meet a friend/acquaintance at your age, live a normal life there's nothing special, but he would like to be your brother/father something, sermonizing. :x

CousinDave- 11-13-2007

LOL Well someone condecending can be your age too. They can even be younger. They just think they are better than you and talk down to you. But arrogant sounds appropriate.

know-it-all?

Marisa- 11-13-2007

ge ge, I got a question too!! =D how do you say "what's up" in mandarin, I've heard something that sounds like "ka mah", is that written as gan me in pinyin???

kastner- 11-14-2007

@CousinDave, you have such guy around you too? :P @Marisa, Bravo! absolutely, you can say "gan ma?" (this expression is only for someone bursts to cause your attention, for instance, touching your back or waving before your face, and you aren't ready for it, not like normal greeting "how are you?")

CousinDave- 11-14-2007
