I thought putting the banner (which displays content from websites that are censored in some countries) there was very much in spirit with the whole New Radicals idea. If it bugs anyone I can remove it, but I think it's a great cause.

I kind of figured that's where you were going with it. I'm not offended I just didn't know if everyone wanted to be recognized as a gay and lesbian group because we will be spidered as such and the random forum ads are now all gay related.

It changes what excerpt is displayed every time the page is refreshed, so I don't think one of them will have a huge impact. Plus, I think the Google Ads are more sensitive to the actual content of the forum, than the (external) entry page.
