Question
Hi all. I wonder if anyone can answer a question for me. I remember seeing a video of "Game of Love" around 1996. I can't recall who performed it, but I always thought it was superior to the Santana/Branch version. Can anyone help? Thanks.

The Santana "Game Of Love" is a totally different song to the one you're thinking of. I suggest you run the title through here: http://www.emimusicpub.com/worldwide/index.html or here: http://repertoire.bmi.com/TitleSearch.asp?querytype=WorkName&page=1&fromrow=1&torow=25&keyname=game%20of%20love&blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=False&blnAltTitles=False

Thanks for the reply, Titan. Not that I'm doubting you, but are you sure they are not the same song? EMI shows the songwriting credit on the Santana song as Rick Nowels and Alex Ander, who I think is Gregg Alexander of The New Radicals. http://www.emimusicpub.com/worldwide/servlet/songResults Would you happen to know when this song was written? The EMI and BMI sites don't seem to give dates, unfortunately.

One thing I've learned never to doubt here and that is when Titan says its a Rads (Gregg) song its a Rads song and when he says its not...well...its probably not!!

It could be a mistake. If so, this BBC reviewer makes the same one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/classicpop/reviews/santana_shaman.shtml I'm intrigued by all this. I'm quite certain I have had this song running through my mind since I first heard it ten years ago, unless this is one of those elaborate tricks memory will sometimes play. But I can't find any reference on the web to a recording prior to the Santana/Branch.

You're totally confusing two seperate titles, Game Of Love is a pretty over used name for a song and that happens a lot in music. You said you saw a video with the same title as Game Of Love back in 1996, Santana's Game Of Love, by Gregg Alexander and Rick Nowels was written around 2002/3. The correct date will probably be in Rick Nowels song book published by Hal Leonard. http://www.amazon.com/Rick-Nowels-Collection/dp/0634032968 Therefore you can't have heard or seen the same song before it was written. So the song you must have seen back in 1996 was written by someone else. If you look at the last link I gave you it lists loads of songs with the same title. As for reporters and music writers getting it wrong, I'm not surprised, most of the time they feed off each others mistakes rather than come here to get the actual facts. Anyways rather than read their crap, try the New Radicals Wiki which is updated by some of our own members. If it's not covered there then ask away, most of us here know what's what and it's a pleasure to share the info. 8smile

Okay, thanks for your help. Actually, it wasn't the title that stuck in my memory all those years (or so I think), but the hook line and the melody. I didn't know the title until the Santana tune hit the airwaves around 2003. But maybe I am confused. It has happened before. I think this will drive me crazy for a while. As an aside, visiting this forum caused me to pick up a copy of Maybe You've Been Brainwashed this afternoon. I hadn't heard much of it beyond "You Get What You Give" and maybe one or two others. It's quite a nice record. I wish they had recorded many more. Thanks again for taking the time to reply and for the links.

I couldn't skip town without dropping by to admit I was wrong, you guys were right. I did finally find the song I heard all those years ago. Different songs. It turned out to be one of those wierd memory tricks! But I got something out of this after all: A proper introduction to the New Radicals album. Great record! Thanks again. Ray
