Racism
I haven't been this mad for so long, months probably, this asshole said a racist joke against mexicans and i cant help but feel so upset, why is there ppl like that guy? my e-crush ( I know, lame) said that some racist jokes were funny and I couldn't believe what he said, I'm now all pissed off at this guy, and he won't talk to me anymore, what a jerk :x

well marisa, there are some people who are racist out of ignorance, and there are others who are racist from bad experiences. i live in the south, and alot of people think of racism when they think of the south, so ill use my state as an example. the truth is there is racism everywhere, its just in the south the white racists arent afraid to say exactly what they think of black people, whereas in other states they are much more reserved :zip: . so anyway, some people down here think blacks are bad because thats what their parents taught them growing up, so they are racist out of ignorance. other people are racist because they got beat up everyday by black kids, they had their house broken into by black dudes, and they had their car stolen by black people...so they had nothing but bad experiences with blacks, therefore all blacks are bad in their eyes. i lived in southern texas with my wife for 3 and a half years and most of the people in that city were mexican, and me as a white guy was a minority, so i got to experience racism from mexicans to me. if you want a real shocker, the most racist state by far is hawaii....yes thats right, that little island in the middle of the pacific ocean is owned mostly by the japanese, the population is 90% asian and they get away with having a special "kill white man day" as a statewide school holiday. living over there is like a whole other country, they dont even consider themselves part of america. my wife lived there for about 3 years and she never wanted to go back. theres racist people all over the world, but like i said, its either out of ignorance, or too many bad experiences.

Well first of all, I am sorry more than anything someone you like said something insensitive. That is heartbreaking to begin with. Jokes are a weird thing, as you know Marisa. All of us in our individual nationalities and races have quirks about us that make us unique and occasionally funny. Being of mostly Italian descent, I think a good Italian joke now and then is pretty funny, mostly because what the people say, there is some validity to it. As you know from my website, I love good Italian relative humor because my relatives were funny immigrants. However there is no call for a joke or comment that is out and out mean on any level and I won't tolerate that from anyone I know about any race or nationality. I personally am very bothered by the treatment of Mexican people locally. All the discussion of Mexican people looking for an opportunity here and people being awful about it. I find the Mexican people who live here and trying to get by to be hard working, co-operative and very friendly and community oriented. I would rather have them here then some so called Americans. But take it from an old person and I'm not trying to be a jerk, I learned a long time ago to... a)laugh at yourself a little b) develop a thick skin, don't let people get to you! c) respect bounderies, know when were crossing a line with others, caution others when they're crossing a line with you. d) weed out the people you have no use for. Remember one thing, I too live in an area where I am the minority and I've come to realize that in 40 years or so, with as much relationship integration as we have now, (two of my kids are in relationships not of their race) we aren't really going to know what race and nationality people are anyway. This problem might actually rectify itself in time. Well I am sorry you had a bad experience Marisa and hope it wasn't too wounding to you. Can't add much to what's already been said, sorry Marisa. Life's full of them, you just have to learn to ignore them or put them down with their own poison.

Thanks guys, I really felt like shit that day and I understand what you said, Jonathan (sp) but its waay different when the jokes are meant to embarras your country =/ hope none of you are racists like many people out there :(

People can be so many some times. I tell them that it is not fair and it is just like someone calling you (if the person is white) a whigger, cracker, white trash, or white honkie. Therefore, I can totally understand where you are coming from. I get offended by those jokes, too. Most of the time they are based on sterotypes :(
